Mass/Conn United Expanding Springfield Jr. Thunderbirds with Limited-Travel Teams
Enfield, CT - Mass/Conn United is excited to announce the formation of limited travel AAA teams for the 2019-’20 season.
The Springfield Jr. Thunderbirds Limited-Travel AAA program is designed to provide players an opportunity to play for enjoyment, fitness and fellowship. Skill development and team concepts will be stressed. This program will allow players to experience competitive independent and league play, with limited travel, in an environment that provides a fun learning experience. It is ideal for players and families who wish to participate in a hockey program without the demands of a heavy travel schedule.
Springfield Jr. Thunderbirds Limited-Travel program costs will be affordable for those tranisitioning from the area's recreational programs.
The Jr. TBirds will field Limited-Travel AAA teams at the following levels:
U14 Bantam Major
06 Bantam Minor
07 Pee Wee Major
08 Pee Wee Minor
09 Squirt Major
10 Squirt Minor
Springfield Jr. Thunderbirds Limited-Travel AAA teams will utilize ice at both Enfield Twin Rinks in Enfield, CT and Olympia Ice Center in West Springfield, MA.

The 10 Elites ran the table and capped off a perfect 6-0 weekend with a big 7-1 semifinal win over the East Coast Wizards and a 4-3 double OT nailbiter win over Atlantic Thunder in finals. Mass/Conn United Expanding Springfield Jr. Thunderbirds Girls into Olympia Ice Center
Enfield, CT / West Springfield, MA —Mass/Conn United (MCU) announced today that it will expand operations for its Springfield Jr. Thunderbirds Girls program into the Olympia Ice Center beginning with the 2019-’20 season. The Jr. Thunderbirds are a Tier 1 and Tier 2 Massachusetts Hockey state-bound and USA Hockey national-bound program competing in the New England Girls Hockey League (NEGHL).
“Today’s announcement brings an opportunity for the region’s aspiring hockey players to compete at the Tier 1 and Tier 2 state and national-bound levels in addition to playing in what is largely regarded as the country’s best youth hockey league for female players,” stated Mass/Conn United General Manager Keith Hillebrecht. “We look forward to working with the Olympia Ice Center and expanding our Springfield Jr. Thunderbirds Girls program.”
“As Mass/Conn United continues to grow, so do the opportunities for female hockey players. With multiple levels of play, the NEGHL has a division that suits all Jr. Thunderbirds players whether it be at the Tier 1 or Tier 2 level,” said Carol Lessard, Mass/Conn United Girls Director. “The league play, in addition to our path to the Mass Hockey State Tournament and USA Hockey Nationals, makes the Springfield Jr. Thunderbirds the premier program for players from Connecticut and Western Massachusetts.”
